I have caught on the internet today that Kdevelop IDE of version 4 is newly out.
Kdevelop IDE used to be great software for c/c++ (and other languages) developers in older KDE versions. Now, the developers claimed a better php support (KDev 3.5.4 vs KDev 4.0 really impresses), and I am always interested in php-related stuff, so I decided to make a test drive.
Firstly, update the system with the latest kde packages (I use official repos for this):
sudo yum update kde*
Download sources:
mkdir -p software/kdevelop/ cd software/kdevelop/ wget ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/kdevelop/4.0.0/src/kdevelop-4.0.0.tar.bz2 wget ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/kdevelop/4.0.0/src/kdevelop-php-1.0.0.tar.bz2 wget ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/kdevelop/4.0.0/src/kdevelop-php-docs-1.0.0.tar.bz2 wget ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/kdevelop/4.0.0/src/kdevplatform-1.0.0.tar.bz2 tar xvfj kdevplatform-1.0.0.tar.bz2 && tar xvfj kdevelop-4.0.0.tar.bz2 && tar xvfj kdevelop-php-1.0.0.tar.bz2 && tar xvfj kdevelop-php-docs-1.0.0.tar.bz2
Compile for home environment (as of //www.kdevelop.org/mediawiki/index.php/KDevelop_4/compiling):
cd kdevplatform-1.0.0 mkdir build cd build/ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$HOME/kdevelop4 ../ make make install export KDEDIRS=$HOME/kdevelop4:/usr kbuildsycoca4 cd ../../kdevelop-4.0.0 mkdir build cd build/ cmake -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH=$HOME/kdevelop4 -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$HOME/kdevelop4 ../ make make install export KDEDIRS=$HOME/kdevelop4:/usr kbuildsycoca4 cd ../../kdevelop-php-1.0.0 mkdir build cd build/ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$HOME/kdevelop4 ../ make make install export KDEDIRS=$HOME/kdevelop4:/usr kbuildsycoca4 cd ../../kdevelop-php-docs-1.0.0 mkdir build cd build/ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$HOME/kdevelop4 ../ make make install export KDEDIRS=$HOME/kdevelop4:/usr kbuildsycoca4
The results are below:
As far as you see, the documentation module and the internal Kdevelop settings are not properly working. There are some more bugs. Anyway, I will continue using Netbeans as the default bug supplier on my desktop…
